The Truth

God's Word Is Truth

“There is nothing that we can do to destroy the truth…” [2 Corinthians 13:8]

The truth will always come to be known! Even if you suppress it the truth will always prevail. It’s important to know the truth, to live a happy life. A life of deception and lies can never lead to good success!

There are two main concepts of truth in the Bible: Reliability and Reality.

  1. Reliability – The Truth is Reliable

“May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the LORD your God sends you to tell us. [Jeremiah 42:5]

God is reliable and his truth is reliable, God is described to be “true and faithful”. This shows God’s character to be true and faithful as he is reliable and dependable.

“Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.” [Hebrews 11:11]

Examining the story of Sarah in the Bible, she trusted in God to be blessed with a child, even as she was passed the age to conceive a child “she judged him faithful” meaning that she put her trust and belief in God’s word. Even with the biological determinants preventing her from convincing as presented as the ‘fact’, however this is not the “truth” as God’s word is the truth. We know that God’s word is reliable, dependable and trustworthy. By Sarah believing she judges God truthfully and faithfully to what God intended and promised.

God is reliable because his words and works faithfully portray who he is and are in harmony with reality.

Our realities in life may be when all our odds are against us, but just like Sarah her reality was that she could not bear a child due to her age and biological clock to have stopped, BUT by believing in God, the truth revealed itself.

God’s word is the truth!

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. [John 17:17]

Through God’s truth we are made holy.

God’s word stands forever!

It is very clear in the Bible that heaven and earth, kings and kingdoms, great people and philosophers will pass away, but God’s word will never pass away. It stands forever. It is a document of truth, and bold in its proclamation.

The Truth is Discoverable

“…If you continue in My word… Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you
free.” [John 8:31-32]

For instance, to find the truth of a case, we become detectives, we look for the clues to uncover the events of the incident. The truth of God’s word is discoverable and it’s possible for all to discover it. To continue in God’s word means to “stay at it” to be consistent in studying and meditation on God’s word with an open heart.  The only way to know the truth is to continue in God’s word, and that truth you know will set you free. The truth is not something that we can all logically grasp but it needs to be conveyed and open to us and our hearts need to receive it by Faith.

The Truth Liberates

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” [John 8:32]

The truth sets free and delivers you out of bondage. The devil capitalizes on our ignorance to deceive and to destroy, because we are unaware of the truth. You experience true freedom by knowing the truth which is God. Living in self-deception bounds and chains yourself but God’s truth liberates you.

Many people live in self-condemnation, living in fear that their sins have not been washed away by Jesus who were crucified on the cross. How then can they be liberated and be able to praise God when they do not know the truth about themselves? You must know that you have been accepted and your situation does not define your destiny and your condition is not your life.

2. Reality – The Truth is Real

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. [John 1:14]

Jesus is the embodiment of TRUTH! The truth is real, and it is referred to the word of God. “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” Meaning that Jesus was a man with a physical form, this glory was the one and only Son of God that is full of grace and truth.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. [John 14:6]

Jesus is the way the truth and the life. The ‘truth’ in the Bible is not just holy or just an idea but rather it is a person, touchable and real. The person is Christ!

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” [John 8:36]

When you experience Christ, you experience the truth. In which the truth will set you free, Christ is the truth, and he will set you free. WHEN YOU ARE FREE BY THE TRUTH, YOU ARE FREE BY THE LIFE OF THE SON. YOU ARE TRULY FREE.

God’s words unveil a reality that we certainly ought to experience but that experience cannot come until we agree with God’s reliable words by faith.
